Ethel M. Peveraro, 93,of Stroud Township, passed away early Wednesday morning, December 19, 2012, at the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.
Born Ethel Mae Batson on April 30, 1919 in Waterloo Village, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Claudia (Schumaker) & Clarence Batson and she spent her younger years in the Budd Lake/Netcong area of New Jersey.
She married Arthur B. Peveraro in 1937 and moved to Manhattan, NY. They raised their two children in the Bronx, NY and she has resided in the Monroe County area since December, 1970.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Carole Vuchak, wife of Joseph F. of Stroud Township; loving granddaughter Diana G. Lamendola, wife of Martin R. of Stroud Township; loving grandson, Joseph T. Vuchak, partner of Lindsey Kirkaldie of Flagstaff, AZ; brother, Henry Batson and his wife Caroline of Stanhope, NJ; sister-in-law, Anna Peveraro of Little Neck, NY and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1960; son, Arthur R. Peveraro in 2002; brothers Edward, Clifford, Robert and Harry and sisters Gladys and Catherine.
In the 1960’s she worked as a proof-reader for the Reuben H. Donnelley Corporation in Manhattan, publishers of the Yellow Pages. She also worked as a library assistant at ESSC, retiring in 1985. After her retirement she remained very active, working well into her 80’s as a home-health aide and Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed cooking all of her home-made specialties. She felt proud and blessed by her greatest accomplishment, her devoted immediate and extended family. It could be said of Ethel that any new friend was a stranger she had yet to meet. There will be a viewing from 10:00 to 11:00AM Friday, December 21, at the William Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. The funeral service will begin at 11:00AM Friday at the funeral home with the Reverend Robert Shank officiating. Burial will follow in the Stanhope Union Cemetery, Stanhope, NJ.
