Joanna Walker

Joanna Walker, 41, passed away on June 30, 2012. Jo was born on September 17, 1970 in East Stroudsburg and resided in Stroudsburg her entire life.

Joanna graduated from Stroudsburg High School and attended the University of Arizona. She had a life long love for gymnastics, field hockey and track and had participated in many local running events. She also had a love for the outdoors.

For the past four years, she bravely fought a battle with cancer, showing courage and strength as she continued to share her love, hope and smiles. One of Jo's missions was to send out messages to young people of all ages to inform them about the early indicators for colon cancer. Joanna and her family are forever grateful for the compassionate care and guidance which were given with love and infinite insight.

Joanna is survived by her mother, Carol Stewart and step-father, Steve of Chalfont, PA; her father, Patrick Walker of Stroudsburg; her sister, Kristin Lord and her husband, Chris of Stroudsburg; and nephews, Ryan and Connor Lord of Stroudsburg. She is also survived by her paternal grandparents, Jean and Thomas Furey of Doylestown; stepsister, Janis Flanagan and her husband, John of Maryland; step brother, David Stewart and his wife, Cheryl of New Hampshire; a nephew and niece, Tyler and Emily Stewart; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Jo was preceded in death by her soul mate, Seamus Riley and her maternal grandparents, Marion and Milfred Hooper.

There will be a viewing on Thursday, July 5, from 10:00 to 11:00AM followed by funeral services at 11:00AM in the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Candy LaBar officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, RR 13, Box 2138, Stroudsburg, PA 18360 or to the Hughes Cancer Center, Brown Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18360.

Arrangements are under the direction of the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg.
