Grace S. Hirt, 94, died Sunday afternoon, May 6, at Phoebe Health Care Center in Allentown where she was a resident since 2011. She was the widow of Henry C. Hirt who died in 1983.

Born on May 6, 1918 in Newport, RI, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Johnson) Spencer and lived in Palisades Park, NJ from 1955 to 2009.

She was a first grade teacher at the Roosevelt Elementary School in Weehauken, NJ for over 30 years.

Grace was a member of the Retired Educators of New Jersey; a lifelong Girl Scout and Girl Scout Leader and she was a Roman Catholic.

She is survived by a son, Ronald Hirt and his wife, Carol of Jonas; a daughter, Susan Simmons and her husband, Jimmy of Devonshire, Bermuda; six grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marion; a brother, Sonny and two great grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Hirt.

There will be a viewing hours from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 8:30PM on Wednesday, May 9, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM Thursday, May 10, at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, Brodhead Avenue & Ridgeway Street, East Stroudsburg with Father Augustine as celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
